Up close
The Unitree AlienGo is a mid-size quadruped for robotics research, autonomy development and inspection prototypes. It carries 13 kg, walks at over 1.5 m/s and runs 2.5–4.6 hours per charge, with depth cameras, a visual-odometry camera and optional LiDAR on an Ubuntu and ROS software stack. It is an older Unitree platform, below the B2 in payload and weather protection.
Key features
13 kg payload
Room for LiDAR, compute, cameras and inspection sensors.
Long sessions
2.5–4.6 hours per charge for mapping, testing and teleoperation.
Depth perception
Two depth cameras plus a visual-odometry camera for navigation work.
ROS ready
Ubuntu and ROS for mapping, perception and control development.
All-terrain
Handles stairs, slopes and obstacles, and gets back up after a fall.
Open interfaces
Ethernet, USB and power outputs for add-on sensors and compute.
Is it right for you?
Good fit if
- ROS, navigation or perception research on a proven quadruped
- Carrying sensors or compute up to 13 kg
- Gait and locomotion development (12 joint motors)
- Extending an existing AlienGo project or fleet
Not ideal if
- You need Unitree's newest industrial dog with stronger weather sealing and payload (see B2)
- You need guaranteed stock or a ready-made autonomous inspection system

Questions
How much does the Unitree AlienGo cost?
Unitree lists it at about US$50,000 and asks buyers to contact sales for the final price. Shipping, taxes, LiDAR, spare batteries, software and support can add to that, so confirm exactly what is included.
How much can the AlienGo carry?
About 13 kg. Count every mounted item, including sensors, brackets, compute and cables, and keep a margin: heavy payloads cut runtime and stability on stairs and slopes.
How long does the battery last?
Around 2.5–4.6 hours per charge from a 317.52 Wh battery. Payload, speed, terrain and temperature all change real runtime.
What is the difference between the AlienGo and the B2?
The B2 is Unitree's newer industrial dog: IP67-rated, over 40 kg walking payload and 4–6 hours runtime. The AlienGo is lighter and cheaper, and suits research and prototyping rather than all-weather field work.
Does the AlienGo support ROS?
Yes. It runs Ubuntu with ROS support for mapping, perception, navigation and gait development, and has Ethernet and USB for external computers and sensors.
