Up close

Boston Dynamics SpotMini was a compact all-electric quadruped prototype first shown in 2016, famous for videos of it opening doors with its arm. It weighed about 25 kg (30 kg with the arm) and ran around 90 minutes. It was never sold under that name; it evolved into the commercial Spot robot, which is the model to look at today.

Key features

All-electric

Quieter than Boston Dynamics' earlier hydraulic robots.

Door-opening arm

Its arm demos became some of the best-known robot videos.

Compact

Much smaller than BigDog and LS3.

Path to Spot

Its design led directly to the commercial Spot.

Is it right for you?
