The brief
A music festival mainstage host wanted an opener that scaled with the production but didn't compete with the act. They had pyro, lasers, and a 12,000-person crowd already primed. The robots had to feel like part of the room, not a sideshow.
The work
Eight robots in two staggered rows, choreographed to the BPM of the headline DJ's intro track. We shared a master clock with the lighting director so beam angles, fleet motion, and the BPM dropped on the same frame.
Three days of programming on-site, full tech rehearsal with the act's tour manager, two stand-by configurations in case the BPM shifted between soundcheck and showtime.
The moment
As the BPM dropped, the fleet hit the floor in sequence — a 16-beat cascade across both rows. The crowd reaction made the act's entrance feel inevitable.
The headliner walked on five seconds later. The room was already on its feet.
